Our featured presenter will be shell artist, Susan Lloyd. She will talk about her artwork and the history of Shell Art. See attachment of her “Little Girl” , a chalkware head with shells.
Susan grew up in Southport, lives in Westport. She has a BFA in sculpture from RISD and an MFA in jewelry and metalsmithing from Tyler School of Art. In the past, she worked as an advertising art director, as a designer for commercial interiors and as a garden designer.
For the past 14 years, she has been a shell artist, covering boxes, mirrors, mosaics, paperweights and lamps with shells. Her work has been shown at the Sanibel Shell Show, the Philadelphia Shell Show, the Cape Cod Shell Show, Westport Arts Center Pop-Up show and in Nantucket. She creates a birdhouse every year for Project Return. This month, her work is in the window of Papyrus during Westport Art About Town.
Susan says of her work that her “interest is always in the combination and interplay of color, texture and shape.”
