Debra Schaffer will discuss and show pictures of her mixed media photo collages and her stone and wood sculptures.
Debra brings thirty years of stone and wood carving to her collages. She takes hundreds of photographs of a scene, cuts them up and reassembles them into a multi-layered work that incorporates stones, wood, greenery, and clay items. She says, “I think like a sculptor. I never see flat. I always see perspective and want viewers to be pulled into my experiences and share the events and places I have seen.”
The Ridgefield resident taught sculpture for more than thirty years. Her work is in over 400 private and public collections. She has exhibited in more than twenty galleries in the tri-state area and in the Hudson River, Katonah, Housatonic, and Monmouth Museums. She has received awards from the Whitney, MOMA, Katonah, Aldrich, and Queens Museums, as well as from Silvermine’s Art of the Northeast, from Chaim Gross, and from William Zimmer.
